The poets are organized alphabetically by personal name.

A

Referred to as "Kan'in Minister of the Left" after his residence.

H

Ki no Haseo (845-912) (GSS)
GSS: 39
Bishop Henjo (816-890) (KKS)
He served Emperor Nimmyo but became a priest after his death. His son is Priest Sosei. Tsurayuki included him as one of the six poets discussed in the preface to the KKS, thus earning him a place as one of the "six poetic immortals".
GSS: 48

I

Ise (KKS)
GSS: 20, 52

K

Taira no Kanemori (?-990) (GSS)
Although descended from imperial lineage, his father had already been given the Taira name as a commoner. The two poems attributed to him in the GSS both refer to him as "Prince Kanemori", thus influencing some commentators to support the attribution of these poems to Prince Kanemi, after some variant texts. Although only two of his poems appear in the GSS, he is far better represented in later collections.
GSS: 3
Fujiwara no Kanesuke (877-933) (KKS)
One of the 36 poetic immortals. He seems to have had significant involvement with Tsurayuki and other major poets of the time.
GSS: 17
Fujiwara no Korehira (875-938) (GSS)
He participated in a number of early poetry competitions and seems to have been a friend of Mitsune, Tadamine, and other KKS era poets.
GSS: 48
Sakanoue no Korenori (?-930) (KKS)
A KKS era poet who participated in a number of early poetry competitions. One of the 36 poetic immortals.
GSS: 42, 54

M

Fujiwara no Masatada (?-961) (GSS)
GSS: 43
Minister of the Left
Fujiwara no Saneyori
Ōshikōchi no Mitsune (859-925?) (KKS)
One of the compilers of the KKS, and one of the 36 poetic immortals.
GSS: 2, 9, 13, 19, 41, 44

S

Fujiwara no Saneyori (900-970) (GSS)
Known for both his poetry and Chinese learning, he rose to the highest levels of the government. He also served as a judge for at least one poetry competition.
GSS: 5
Sosei (KKS)
GSS: 28
Emperor Suzaku (923-951) (GSS)
The 61st Emperor in the traditional listing. Reigned from 930-946.
GSS: 6, 50

T

Ki no Tomonori (?-905) (KKS)
One of the 36 poetic immortals. He was chosen to be one of the KKS compilers but seems to have died before its completion.
GSS: 11
Fujiwara no Toshiyuki (?-901 or 907) (KKS)
One of the 36 poetic immortals, though he never rose very high in government.
GSS: 1
Ki no Tsurayuki (c. 868-945) (KKS)
One of the compilers of the KKS, the writer of the kana preface, and later accorded legendary status as a poet. He has the most poems in the GSS of any poet.
GSS: 18, 45, 46
