新撰万葉集
しんせんまんようしゅう
新編国歌大観 II.2
This is a collection traditionally said to have been compiled by Sugawara no Michizane 菅原道真 in 893. It is also sometimes called 菅家万葉 because of this. The 555 poems are a combination of Chinese verse, and Japanese poems written in Man'yogana. It draws many of its poems from two poetry contests of the period.
